F1 Brazilian GP: Verstappen leads nominations for FIA action of the year

Max Verstappen's overtake of Nico Rosberg in last week's Brazilian Grand Prix is one of nine moments nominated for the 2016 FIA action of the year award.

After his praise-winning performance in the rain at Interlagos, the Red Bull driver picks up his second consecutive nomination as F1's entry for the action of the year award, with the winner to be announced at the FIA's annual Prize Giving Gala in Vienna next month.

Verstappen is in line for an unprecedented third win in a row of the award having picked up the honour last year for his pass around the outside of Sauber's Felipe Nasr at Spa's Blanchimont corner during the 2015 Belgian Grand Prix. In 2014 the Dutch star won the award for a stunning last-lap pass on Antonio Giovinazzi in a European Formula 3 race at Imola.

This year the FIA is allowing fans to vote for their favourite moment from the shortlist of nine, with Verstappen holding strong form in fan votes having picked up multiple F1 driver of the day awards this season.

Other highlights on the shortlist include Kevin Eriksson's around the outside turn one pass of three rivals to jump from fourth to first in the World Rallycross Championship, plus Joel Eriksson's unrelenting pass for the lead on Lance Stroll in the European Formula 3 championship.

Each FIA championship has one nomination to complete the nine-strong shortlist.

WRC has put forward a stunning stage victory by Kris Meeke on his way to winning Rally Finland, with Jean-Eric Vergne's bold defence against DS Virgin Racing team-mate Sam Bird becoming Formula E's offer.

WTCC reigning champion Jose Maria Lopez's marathon battle against Norbert Michelisz in Argentina also makes the list plus Andre Lotterer's quick-thinking pass on Neel Jani at the 6 Hours of Nurburgring in the World Endurance Championship.

Luksaz Habaj's heart-stopping save from a roll in the European Rally Championship and Paolo de Conto's overtake in the CIK-FIA KZ karting world championship complete the nomination list.

In 2015 Verstappen claimed a hat-trick of awards by taking home the action of the year, rookie of the year and personality of the year at the FIA awards.
