Volkswagen Polo is the number 1 in Western Europe
With 11 million cars sold up to now, the Volkswagen Polo has been benchmark in the supermini segment for 37 years. This track record has been carried forward in 2011: Throughout Europe, the compact Volkswagen is winning the pole position in the supermini segment, based on new registrations.*
"After a very successful 2010, 2011 proved to be an outstanding year for the Polo once again. To be the number 1 in the supermini segment all across Europe demonstrates strikingly that the Polo is first choice for many customers. In Western Europe alone, more than 340,000 vehicles were sold," says Xavier Chardon, Head of Sales Europe of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars Brand.
The Polo launched in 2009 was no less than the fifth generation of the supermini that Volkswagen has presented. Since the beginning in 1975, Volkswagen has continually advanced each Polo model, systematically geared to our customers' expectations. The strengths of the latest Polo are its dynamic design, comprehensive safety equipment as well as its cutting-edge engine lineup. The Polo sets standards also in terms of quality, comfort and not least driving fun. In addition, Volkswagen has an extremely fuel-efficient yet affordable car in its portfolio with the Polo BlueMotion.
The fifth generation of the Polo has been awarded numerous international prizes. The compact best-seller has collected coveted awards such as the "Car of the Year 2010", "World Car of the Year 2010", "World Green Car of the Year", "Goldenes Lenkrad" (Golden Steering Wheel), "Grünes Lenkrad" (Green Steering Wheel), "Auto der Vernunft" (Car of Reason), "Die besten Autos" (The Best Cars), "Auto Trophy" and "Red Dot Design Award." Parallel to that, the latest Polo has won an impressive 22 out of 22 comparative tests both at home and abroad.
The international popularity of the Polo is reflected in the best-seller's production as well. The Polo is currently produced at a total of seven locations in Europe, Africa, South America, China, India and Russia.
