Upgraded brake discs for both Haas drivers in Malaysia

The Haas Formula 1 team will run new brake discs with improved cooling at this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix.

Grosjean has been switching between Brembo and Carbone Industrie (CI) brakes all season as he searches for a solution he is comfortable with.

He has been happier with CI brakes, but a combination of disc cooling problems and a shortage of discs have forced Haas to return to Brembo at certain tracks.

For Malaysia, Haas has revised its brake ducts and will run new discs from CI. If Friday practice is successful, Grosjean is hopeful he will be able to stick with them for the remainder of the season.

"From Malaysia, we have new discs with more cooling, which should help us," he said ahead of the weekend.

"We're hoping to be able to do so [stick with the same discs] from Malaysia onwards, if there aren't any more delays.

"We have designed different brakes.

"The whole team has been working well and doing good progress."

Haas has endured a long, ongoing saga with its brake design, but suffered a specific failure related to the discs in Malaysia last year, where Grosjean had a brake explosion during the race.

Team owner Gene Haas described the problems as 'not simple' to fix, but the team revised its design for this year, and has sought to make further improvements in pursuit of performance.

Grosjean had hoped to run the updated CI brakes in Singapore, but it is believed they were not ready.

Both Grosjean and team-mate Kevin Magnussen will run the new material in Friday practice at Sepang.

Should Haas have to revert to Brembo, Grosjean said he would not be worried and is confident Haas will find a solution to the problem soon.

"I've had a better feeling (with CI) even though I was saying Brembo has made really good progress recently," he said.

"If we had to switch back to Brembo, I'm not too worried. It's going to be OK.

"I have a little preference for the CI, but again, everyone has been working well together and the team is pushing as hard as we can and it's nice to get everyone onboard and involved.

"Between Brembo and CI, they are two very good companies, so I'm pretty sure we are going to get to the end of that soon."
