Nico had nothing on me… and he's driving at his best – Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton says he is taking pleasure from getting the better of Nico Rosberg at this stage in the Formula 1 season even if it doesn't help him overhaul his rival for the 2016 world title.

Hamilton notched up his third consecutive lights-to-flag win in a sodden Brazilian Grand Prix, following on from successes in the USA and Mexico, to apply more pressure onto Rosberg with just one round of the season remaining.

A result that continues to chip at the margin between the two drivers, Rosberg still heads to Abu Dhabi with a 12 point advantage, meaning a third place finish at the Yas Marina Circuit will suffice for him to wrap up the title.

While Hamilton remains unconvinced he can overhaul Rosberg for the title so long as the final race goes to form, he feels he is out-performing Rosberg even when the German is driving at his best.

"I am happy that I beat everyone," he said. "I am happy with the same car I beat Nico, and Nico is driving at his best right and he had nothing on me [in the race]. I am happy that we as a team have continued to make history and feel how my mechanics given to me at the beginning of the year have gelled so well and doing a fantastic job.

"Nico is doing all he has to do, finish every race and not have any problems. I am in an awkward position going into the last race, it doesn't make a big difference if I drive like I do now because I have already lost so much in the year. But I won't give up because you never know what could happen."

Reflecting on the race itself, Hamilton - who was never headed at any stage despite three safety car periods and two red flags - insists his first win on Brazilian soil was easier than it looked.

"For me, I was generally just chillin' up front. When it rains it's usually a good day for me. Today it was tricky for everyone, there were definite opportunities for aquaplaning, which everyone did, but I want to say a big thank you to my team.

"It was one the easier ones. It was a very easy race generally. Usually in the rain here it's the hardest but honestly I didn't have any spins, I didn't really have any moments and it was pretty straightforward. Silverstone 2008 was way harder than this."
