Lukyanuk to work ‘flat out’ to continue ERC title push
Alexey Lukyanuk, the winner of Rally Islas Canaries El Corte Inglés, says that his victory gives him even more motivation to secure a full season in the FIA European Rally Championship.
The Ford Fiesta R5 driver does not currently have the budget to contest the entire season, but having enjoyed a brilliant run in the Canary Islands, he says that the experience has inspired him to knock on even more doors to generate sponsorship.
"I'm going to be working flat out to find more sponsors of course," he said. "We have some very good and very loyal sponsors but we need more as this is an expensive sport. But doing the European championship gives us good value so this motivates everybody. Hopefully I can find some budget to do more rallies and we will see what happens."
Lukyanuk won the final round of last year's ERC - the Rallye du Valais in Switzerland - making him the only person to win back-to-back events spanning two seasons in recent ERC history.
