Glock and Scheider team up for the ROC Nations Cup
Timo Glock and Timo Scheider will pair up to form SAT1 Team Germany 2 at December's ROC Nations Cup in Düsseldorf. Formula 1 racer Glock and double DTM champion Scheider will join forces for the host nation's second team at the event on December 3. F1 world champions Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher have already signed up to defend the ROC Nations Cup title for Team Germany.
Host country Germany will have two teams in the ROC Nations Cup on December 3 as Timo Glock and Timo Scheider join forces for the event.
Glock and Scheider will race for SAT1 Team Germany 2 as they look to defeat their compatriots and four-time ROC Nations Cup victors Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher - along with the rest of the star-studded field from around the world.
Glock has enjoyed a busy and successful racing career on both sides of the Atlantic, recently establishing himself as a fixture on the Formula 1 grid. The 2007 GP2 series champion has reached the F1 podium three times and is now putting his energy into bringing the Marussia Virgin Racing team up the grid.
Scheider has spent over a decade racing in Germany's DTM touring car series, twice winning the championship for the Audi works team in 2008 and 2009. He is also a winner of the Spa and Nürburgring 24-Hour races.
Glock said: "Only the world's best drivers are traditionally invited to the ROC Nations Cup so it's a real pleasure to belong to this group. I'll also be competing with some of the Formula 1 drivers so it will be interesting to find out what happens when we battle with each other in identical vehicles. Apart from that, I'm looking forward to meeting my fellow drivers in a relaxed atmosphere, away from the F1 paddock. I'm sure that the event will be fun both on and off the racetrack."
Scheider added: "I'm looking forward to joining up with Timo Glock as the second German team. It goes without saying that the team formed by two Formula 1 World Champions is regarded as the No 1 German squad. But that doesn't mean that we won't give our very best to defeat them. My team-mate is an incredibly fast driver and we will not only have a lot of fun together but also be competitive. I will definitely give my very best to be fast and successful in my first ROC Nations Cup."
The Race Of Champions is an annual end-of-season competition that brings together the world's greatest drivers from all motor sport's disciplines - including Formula 1, world rally, touring cars, Le Mans and the X-Games - and sets them free to battle head-to-head in identical machinery on a specially constructed parallel track. Drivers pair up for the ROC Nations Cup, this year scheduled for Saturday 3 December, before the individual Race Of Champions takes place on Sunday 4 December. Glock and Scheider are scheduled to compete only in Saturday's ROC Nations Cup.
ROC race organiser Fredrik Johnsson said: "The ROC host country had two teams in the ROC Nations Cup in Paris and London - and we're delighted to repeat that move this year. With Michael and Sebastian as your countrymen there's usually no hope for any other German to compete in the ROC Nations Cup. That's why we've added a second German team - or should that be Timo..."
* The full list of cars has also been finalised for ROC 2011 led by the 5.2-litre, 525bhp Audi R8 LMS which featured at a press conference today in Düsseldorf. The other cars in action round the twisty ROC circuit will be the Skoda Fabia Super 2000, VW Scirocco Cup, KTM X-Bow, ROC car, RX-150 and World Touring Racecar.
