Geneva International Motor Show 2012: World premieres of the Golf GTI Cabriolet and Polo Blue GT

Wolfsburg / Geneva, 06 March 2012 - Volkswagen is presenting two world premieres at the Geneva Motor Show which begins today: the Golf GTI Cabriolet and the Polo Blue GT. Four new up! concept cars offer a look at the future versatility of the New Small Family. Another show highlight is the Cross Coupé. This concept car with TDI plug-in hybrid shines with fuel consumption of only 1.8 l/100 km.

Volkswagen is now launching the Golf Cabriolet on the market - an exceptionally sporty version of the Golf. The key GTI feature of the convertible is its 2.0 l TSI engine with 155 kW / 210 PS. The car also has running gear tuned for sporty performance and many typical GTI properties in its interior and on its exterior.

The new Polo Blue GT finds common ground between dominating performance and extreme fuel efficiency. Utilising the ACT cylinder deactivation system, which is making its Volkswagen debut in the car's new 1.4-litre TSI (103 kW / 140 PS), the Polo Blue GT has a combined fuel consumption of just 4.7 l petrol per 100 km. Meanwhile, the excellently balanced 1.4 TSI runs just as quietly and with low vibration on two active cylinders as it does when all four combustion chambers are operating.

Four new up! concepts will debut in Geneva: from the swiss up! in the colours of the Swiss flag and winter up! with special features for winter sports to the x up! with an expedition-grade roof box and the cargo up! that is equipped as a small delivery vehicle with dark tinted rear windows.

Pointing the way to the future is the extremely fuel-efficient Cross Coupé concept - a plug-in hybrid. Powered by a TDI and two electric motors, it boasts a combined fuel consumption value of just 1.8 l/100 km - despite its combined power of 225 kW / 305 PS.
