F1 Singapore GP: Kvyat: I’ve always been loyal to Red Bull…

Daniil Kvyat remains optimistic he still has a future in F1 within in the Red Bull fold even if he admits talks about his 2017 plans have not yet begun.

The Russian has endured a trying season since he was relegated from Red Bull Racing to Toro Rosso at the Spanish Grand Prix, Kvyat having scored just two points since the round five swap. By contrast, team-mate Carlos Sainz has scored 26 points in the same period.

With just one seat at Toro Rosso up for grabs after Sainz was confirmed for 2017 earlier in the year, many consider GP2 title contender Pierre Gasly to be the favourite to join him. However, though Kvyat says he is none the wiser about Red Bull's plans for him next year, he feels he is still in the running.

"Well when the moment will come we will talk, so it hasn't come yet," he said ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix. "Whenever it comes I'm pretty sure it will happen so it's a little bit between me and Red Bull. So I've always been loyal to them, now I'm giving my best to Toro Rosso.

With Kvyat's struggle for form coming as Toro Rosso suffers with a fading package hampered by its year-old Ferrari power unit, he says he can still show his worth by doing the best with what he has.

"I just keep working, what the team knows about me you should ask them. I think that right now I just do my job as good as possible with what I have in my hands, still it's not an excuse we just try to work hard, everyone has limitations, we have ours and we will try to work around it, so whatever happens next year I don't know?"
