F1 Monaco GP: Sainz admits ‘future is uncertain’ at Red Bull

Carlos Sainz says he remains no clearer about his future within the Red Bull fold beyond the 2016 season, but remains confident his form will ensure he is retained.

Competing in his second season of F1 racing with the Scuderia Toro Rosso team, Sainz is enjoying a positive campaign having picked up a career best sixth place finish in the Spanish Grand Prix and a third row start in Monaco.

Though a pit stop blunder by the Toro Rosso team left him eighth at the finish line, Sainz is pleased with his recent performances, even if he says he has no assurances beyond the current campaign.

"My future is uncertain because I have no idea what is going to happen with me," he admitted. "I just know I need to be doing what I am doing because if I keep doing what I have done up until now opportunities will come so I will keep pushing and keep showing Red Bull I can do whatever they ask me to do. I'm sure something will come up from their side. Hopefully."

With Sainz's team-mate Max Verstappen stepping up to the Red Bull Racing team ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, the former Formula Renault 3.5 champion is hoping his immediate success will reflect well on him having run the Dutchmann closely in their time together at Toro Rosso.

"I prefer to focus on myself and just look at myself and see what I need to succeed, or need to keep doing, but for sure Max's success is not going to be bad for me. Indeed, it is going to be good for me. I won't say that I'll cheer for him because I don't but for sure it's not going to be a bad thing for me for him to show his speed and his talent."
