F1 German Grand Prix: Massa opens F1 future talks with other teams

Felipe Massa says he has been speaking with teams other than Williams on a drive for 2017 in Formula 1 after failing to get a firm answer from his current squad.

The Brazilian driver says talks have begun with other F1 teams as well as Williams on his future in the sport as he seeks a race seat where he can still compete and 'feel important'.

It has been speculated Williams is keen to make room to bring in Jenson Button who appears to be leaving McLaren so Stoffel Vandoorne can breakthrough.

With Williams yet to confirm either of its drivers for 2017 and refusing to give Massa a firm answer, the Brazilian driver has opened negotiations with other team in the F1 paddock

"The talks is for sure happening since a little bit of time, I would not say just here in this team but around," Massa said. "I think now we have no one hundred per cent right answer [from Williams] and in the time we will get the right answer, so we see what is going to happen.

"The talk is not just in Williams. I don't really want to say names of teams or whatever but I am interested in being able to drive in a team that I feel important, that I feel that we can have a good result, a good job, and if I don't have that, maybe I will not be here next year."
