F1 German Grand Prix: Haryanto to race German GP without backing

Rio Haryanto is expected to drive for Manor at this weekend's German Grand Prix but without the funding he needs for the second half of the F1 campaign.

Despite being contractually tied to Manor for the entire season Haryanto's Indonesian backing only covered him up to the end of round 10, last weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix.

It is believed the team will give him exemption for this weekend at Hockenheim due to the tight turnaround in back-to-back races, plus it will give more time to negotiate funding over the summer break.

Speaking in Hungary, Haryanto is confident of seeing out the year with Manor and yesterday the team posted via its Facebook page about the 'fabulous reception' the Indonesian received landing in Frankfurt.

"I think so. We will see," Haryanto said in Hungary. "Obviously if you see me at Hockenheim then I think that would secure the whole season."

Manor appear steadfast in aiming to retain the Indonesian driver, and with it his lucrative backing, but rumours have surfaced of the team asking about McLaren's reserve and third driver Stoffel Vandoorne's availability for the second half of the year.

Vandoorne has attended the majority of F1 races with McLaren and stepped in for Fernando Alonso in Bahrain after the Spaniard was declared unfit to race.

The GP2 Series champion is also combining his McLaren F1 efforts with a maiden Super Formula campaign in Japan as he continues his pursuit of a full-time race seat with the Woking-based squad in 2017.
