F1 German Grand Prix: Alonso: Points ‘difficult’ for McLaren after Germany

Fernando Alonso feels McLaren-Honda must maximise every opportunity it has to score points in Hockenheim with the races after the summer break unlikely to play to the team's strengths.

The Spaniard grabbed his third top ten finish of the campaign with an impressive seventh place in Hungary to act as the 'best of the rest' in the tight midfield battle between McLaren, Toro Rosso, Force India and Williams.

With the twisty and less power-dependent Hungaroring helping Alonso produce the optimum performance from his McLaren, the former two-time F1 world champion is aware the upcoming circuits on the calendar are unlikely to be as kind.

"The progression of the team is very positive, we're having a good run now, we'll have another race next weekend," Alonso said. "The fourth from this marathon that is July, and I hope we can score points again, at this level, but I think it will be difficult.

"After the summer break there will be some pretty tough races for us, we'll suffer a lot, so we have to make the most out of this kind of tracks to score as many points as possible.

"It will be different to Hungary - we can't expect to be the number four team there, and our midfield rivals will be stronger, but we'll try to maximise everything we have in our armoury and give it our best shot."

After the German Grand Prix, which Alonso is a three-time winner, F1 shuts down for its summer break before resuming at power-dependant circuits Spa and Monza to complete the European stint of the season.
