F1 European GP: Bottas won’t be happy without wins

Buoyed as he - and the Williams team - was by third place in last weekend's Canadian Grand Prix, Valtteri Bottas insists that he will never been fully satisfied until he stands on the top step of an F1 podium.

The Finn came home behind Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel to complete the top three in Montreal, a circuit that has previously been kind to Williams during his tenure, but, despite it being his first visit to the podium this season, insists that it still does not scratch the itch familiar to all race drivers.

"It definitively makes a difference to have a good race, and I think that was one of my best races, one of the best podiums," he confirmed, "I managed to make the tyres work in the long stint and, as a driver, when you do such a good race, you're really happy afterwards, [but] I'm not entirely happy until we win races, because I want to win races."

Coming so soon after another disappointing Monaco outing for the Williams team, Canada provided a welcome boost to all at Grove, and Bottas is confident that there could be more to come in the next few weeks as F1 follows its first visit to the new Baku street track with trips to Austria, Britain, Hungary and Germany before the summer break.

"I think we're coming into a number of good races where I'm still sure we can have good weekends if we keep developing the car," he said, "I think having a long straight [in Baku] isn't too bad for us, but we need to see. Of course, if you run less downforce you'll struggle more in the corners, so I'm sure everybody will be trying to find the best compromise between straight line speed and downforce during the first day of practice tomorrow."
