F1 Canadian GP: Renault, Haas ditch super-softs in Canada GP tyre picks

Both Renault and Haas drivers will take on the Canadian Grand Prix without any super-soft Pirelli tyres to maximise its allocation of softs and the new ultra-softs.

In a move not seen so far with the new tyre regulations, Renault and Haas will have zero sets of the red-banded super-soft tyres which comes after the new ultra-softs competitive debut at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The tyre selections are made seven weeks in advance of long haul races to give Pirelli time to prepare the number of allocations required. But the bold move doesn't look to be a gamble after Lewis Hamilton called the new ultra-soft 'the super-softs painted purple' in Monaco.

Both Esteban Gutierrez and Romain Grosjean have picked the maximum of 10 sets of ultra-softs with three sets of softs, while Renault duo Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer have gone a step conservative with eight ultra-softs and five softs.

Mercedes and Red Bull have picked the next fewest sets of super-softs with two per driver with the majority of other teams selecting variations of similar allocations.

In a mark of how varied choices have been with tyres this year, Sauber have selected five sets of super-softs - along with six ultra-softs and just two softs - per driver for Montreal.
