F1 British GP: Alonso: The championship is terribly boring…

Fernando Alonso has brushed off the significance of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg's latest inter-term spat at Mercedes, saying the F1 world championship title fight is still 'terribly boring' regardless.

The Spaniard was one of several drivers to give their view on Hamilton and Rosberg's coming together on the final lap of the Austrian Grand Prix, one that has prompted Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff to hand down a 'final warning' but avoid imposing team orders.

For Alonso, who endured a famously fractious relationship with a then-rookie Hamilton in 2007 at McLaren, he accepts racing against a team-mate should ensure extra care is taken to protect the interests of the team, but admits in the context of a title battle it isn't as clear cut.

"Your teammate, normally you have extra kerb because then you have your bosses and you have your team waiting for you in the garage, so that's something that you need to take care of a little bit more but sometimes when you are that close and fighting for a championship, sometimes you forget that. This is something that is inside any driver and inside the competition but I don't think that it's a big thing.

Regardless, Alonso says he is unmoved by the incident itself because Mercedes currently enjoys such a substantial advantage over the rest, making it 'terribly boring' as a whole.

"I know it's a big thing for the media because the championship is terribly boring and they are winning every race and it's good to talk but I don't think that they will change anything for them or anything for the championship. Life will still be the same after Austria."
