Dakar rally 2015 off to a start - Tim & Tom are on Tour

Le Dakar attracts 800,000 enthusiastic fans to Buenos Aires

Huizen/Buenos Aires, January 4th, 2015 - Finally the long period of waiting for the Maxxis Dakarteam powered by SuperB has come to an end. This morning Le Dakar 2015 finally took off in Buenos Aires.

Tim and Tom Coronel are on Tour in their Maxxis Dakar buggy's heading for stage 1, towards Villa Carlos Paz, a distance of 838 kilometers.

For the members of the Maxxis Dakarteam powered by SuperB the past days were marked by administrative tasks, technical checks of the vehicles and of course the official starting ceremony in Buenos Aires. "The starting podium ceremony is truly a fantastic event, the enthusiasm for the Dakar rally here is unreal," says Tom Coronel. "With around 800,000 fans behind the barriers this remains a wonderful spectacle. But after all the preparations, checks and administrative issues from the past days, I'm now really eager to take off. We are ready for it!"

Warming-up
Over 9,000 grueling kilometers will take the Maxxis Dakarteam powered by SuperB members the upcoming two weeks from Buenos Aires through Argentina, Bolivia and Chili back to Buenos Aires. Starting today with the first stage to Villa Carlos Paz, with a Special Stage of 170 kilometers and a long connection of 663 kilometers. A nice warming-up for Tim & Tom with their buggy's, Jurgen van de Goorbergh on the motorcycle and Kees Koolen and Mohammed Abu Issa on their quads.

"I am truly happy that Tom is among us this year again," explains Tim Coronel. "I told him: 'It is now or never'! It makes this edition for me really special to have him participating again, in a buggy as my teammate, instead of acting as a TV reporter from within the bivouac. I just have to look into his eyes to know what he is thinking and feeling. My goal for this year is winning the solo ranking. Tom has a somewhat different role than I do, because he will also report for Dutch TV from within the rally as a contestant. Reason for a lot of people to think that he will not be aiming for a high position in the ranking. But that is truly a misconception!"
