Back to winning ways for ERC’s Della Casa in Italy
Federico Della Casa has put his challenging start to the FIA European Rally Championship season behind him by winning another Italian event.
The Swiss driver once more swapped his regular Citroën DS3 R5 for the French firm's C4 WRC model on Saturday to triumph on the Liburna Terra, a one-day gravel event near Livorno in Tuscany. He won five of the six stages and finished 42.6 seconds ahead of Alessandro Bettega.
Della Casa and co-driver Domenico Pozzi previously used the C4 WRC to win the Citta di Arezzo Ronde Valtiberina rally in February.
Since then the 24-year-old has competed on the opening two rounds of the ERC. He was running seventh on Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés when he was forced to retire from the first leg by a mechanical problem, while his Circuit of Ireland ended when he went off the road on the third stage.
