WTCR racer Ma ends 2018 a winner

Ma Qing Hua, the first Chinese driver to score points in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO, had double cause for celebration late last month.

Five days after turning 31, the Shanghai resident claimed the first victory in TCR China for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR by Romeo Ferraris when he triumphed in the season closer at the Guangdong International Circuit on 30 December.

Driving for Freely Racing, Ma got the better of eventual champion Sunny Wong at the start before going on to dominate the 15-lap race.

And it could have been a second win for Ma in the third race of the weekend had his team-mate Xia Yi Li not squandered a 25-second advantage by beaching their Italian car in a gravel trap with 25 minutes of the two-driver contest remaining.

Ma has yet to announce his plans for 2019 but tested for race-winning WTCR OSCARO squad Team Mulsanne in mid-December.
