WRC live lowdown: Turkey

Turkey will make a welcome return to the WRC calendar in 2018, and our WRC live team has visited the region to get the lowdown on the new challenge.

Next year's rally, on 13 - 16 September, will form round 10 of the 13-event championship and will be based from the Mediterranean resort of Marmaris on Turkey's Turquoise Coast, around 150km from one of Turkey's former WRC bases in Kemer.

WRC Live presenter Colin Clark travelled to Marmaris to observe this year's candidate event, which featured 13 gravel stages spread over two days of competition.

You can hear Clark's full report in the latest WRC Live Podcast, but it's fair to say he was impressed by what he saw. "It was a fantastic event and most importantly the stages are magnificent and all very close to Marmaris," he said.

"All the attributes are there for a great event. We were not too far from Kemer, so the stages had a lot in common with those ones, but the challenge reminded me more of the Alpine stages we used to see at Rally Cyprus - lots of pine trees and lots of corner-to-corner technical stuff. But by the time the WRC arrives I expect the addition of faster sections too."
