World RX drivers test track at Hockenheim

With the first round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Montalegre in Portugal just over two weeks away, World RX teams and drivers undertook a test session at Hockenheim in Germany yesterday.

The test at the venue - which hosts the second round of World RX in May - was run to evaluate developments to the German circuit, which was introduced to the championship last season.

New Olsbergs MSE signings Kevin Eriksson and Niclas Gronholm ran in a pair of Ford Fiesta Supercars, while new EKS team mates Mattias Ekstrom and Topi Heikkinen drove an Audi S1 - Heikkinen driving the car on a rallycross circuit for the first time. ALL-INKL.COM Munnich Motorsport's new Seat Ibizas are nearing completion ahead of the World RX opener, so Rene Munnich drove a 2015 specification Audi S3 Supercar at the test and completed the most laps of any of the Supercar runners. "I think for the quality of the track, there has been a big step forward (at Hockenheim). It's now completely different to last year. We did a lot of running with the Audi, and we will be testing the new car soon before Portugal," said Munnich.

A number of RX Lites competitors also took part in the test day. France's Cyril Raymond and Kenya's Tejas Hirani both drove for the OMSE squad, with JC Race Teknik running Sondre Evjen and Joachim Hvaal. Finnish team Set Promotion ran Norway's Simon Syversen and Turkish squad TokSport ran a Lites car for Turkey's Ayhancan Guven, who will race in the RX Lites Cup this season.

World RX joins the DTM for a bumper weekend of action at Hockenheim (May 6 - 8).
