Wales Rally GB route revealed with cross border run

The 2016 Wales Rally GB route has been revealed and sees a return to stages in England at the historic Cholmondeley Castle, marking a return to England for the first time since 1999.

The penultimate round of the 2016 Wold Rally Championship recently secured a new three-year deal to remain on the WRC calendar and the bulk of the route remains largely unchanged from last year.

Wales Rally GB will again be based at the Deeside Rally Village alongside the Toyota UK's engine manufacturing plant with the majority of the stages set in the forests of north and mid-Wales, with 22 Special Stages in total covering 336km.

Prestigious stages Myherin and Hafren will be run in reverse for the first time in more than 20 years while the Pantperthog stage returns to the itinerary for the first time since 1997.

A notable addition is the new base for Saturday's action at Cholmondeley Castle, a venue which hosts annual Power and Speed festivals, and replaces Chirk Castle which hosted the Saturday stages for the past three years.

The event begins on Thursday evening at Parc Eirias in Colwyn Bay, the same venue as 2014, while the top three will be presented on Mostyn Street in Llandudno.

WRC championship leader Ogier has claimed a hat-trick of consecutive wins at Wales Rally GB and the Volkswagen driver will be aiming to become just the second driver in WRC history to win four straight events at the British round.

Wales Rally GB hosts the penultimate round of the 2016 WRC season and runs between the 27-30 October.
