Celebrating their 24th year in existence, this year's Fleet News Awards ceremony was held in London. The jury is made up of editors from the Fleet News team, members of various associations and representatives from fleet customers and car manufacturers. Judging the vehicles in terms of quality, maintenance costs including residual value and CO2 emissions, they award prizes in a total of 13 different categories. The Volkswagen brand clinched a double victory thanks to the Passat, which won both "Best Upper Medium Car" as well as "New Company Car of the Year". The ŠKODA Superb Estate claimed first place in the "Best Estate Car" category. The brand was also awarded the prestigious title of "Most Improved Fleet Manufacturer of the Year". SEAT rounded off the Group's victories with a win in the "Best People Carrier" category for its Alhambra model.

The UK fleet market is the biggest in Europe. Traditionally, the market is characterised by a high concentration of large fleets belonging to a small number of customers, with approximately 3% of customers accounting for 60% of the entire fleet customer market. During the whole of 2011, the Volkswagen Group, with its brands Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and SKODA, increased its number of new registrations on the passenger car fleet market (based on fleets of 25 vehicles and above) by 17.1% to 114, 689 vehicles (previous year 97,929), making it the clear market leader.

"The awards are proof that the Volkswagen Group and its wide range of brands is best positioned to satisfy the complex requirements present in today's global fleet business. We aim to continue reinforcing our strong internationally competitive position by introducing new, innovative and economic vehicle concepts and services" says Martin Jahn, the Head of Volkswagen Group Fleet International.
