Superstars: Liuzzi, Berton share Superstars wins at Slovakia Ring
In the third round of the SUPERSTARS INTERNATIONAL SERIES, Teams, Drivers and Fans enjoyed a great day of racing at Slovakia Ring near Bratislava. Vitantonio Liuzzi, driving a works-supported C63 AMG racer campaigned by Mercedes-AMG Romeo Ferraris, and Giovanni Berton, aboard the Team BMW Dinamic BMW M3 E92, shared wins on Race Day as 15.000 people showed up on the grandstands.
In Race 1, Mercedes power ruled the field with an 1-2 finish for Liuzzi and team-mate Thomas Biagi as they ended up respectively in first and second, while Berton rounded out the top-3. Fabrizio Giovanardi, on the Petri Corse-prepared Porsche Panamera, scored fourth in front of the BMWs driven by Max Mugelli and Mauro Trentin. In Race 2, Berton got the nod at the end of an exciting run, while Liuzzi's day ended up with an early retirement due to a mechanical issue that brought him to a stop, with flames coming from underneath his car. Following to a Safety-Car condition, Berton managed his advantage at the re-start and gradually re-built a comfortable margin. In second, Thomas Biagi won an outstanding battle with Audi's Gianni Morbidelli with the Audi RS5. Luigi Ferrara took fourth, with another Mercedes, the Coupé fielded by Roma Racing Team, while Mugelli (BMW) and Andrea Bacci (Mercedes) rounded out the top-6.
Thanks to today's results, Biagi managed to increase his lead in standings and now sits on top with 105 points, followed by Berton (80) and Liuzzi (76), while Ferrara and Biagi are respectively in 4th and 5th.
In the GTSPRINT INTERNATIONAL SERIES, Race 1 was won by the Audi R8 LMS of German Thomas Schoffler and Finn Antti Buri (Audi MTM) while the Porsche 911 of Italian Glauco Solieri (Autorlando) managed to take the afternoon's honours. The Bologna-based racer also cruised to top in standings. In Race 1, Schoffler and Buri held off the local duo of Andrj Studenic and Pratik Tkac on the Dino&Co Racing Team Ferrari 458 Italia, who also scored second place in Race 2. Third place went to the Corvette Z06 R of Piero Necchi and Roberto Del Castello (now sitting as a runner-up in points). Czech Michael Vorba and Slovakian Lubomir Jakubik hit third in Race 2 with the RDP Racing Ferrari 458 Italia.
The next round for the SUPERSTARSWORLD will be on the next 22nd and 23rd of June at Zolder, Belgium.
