Superstars: Liuzzi and Biagi share thoughts over Monza
The opening round of the 2013 SUPERSTARS INTERNATIONAL SERIES ended up with an all-Mercedes draw between team-mates Tonio Liuzzi and Thomas Biagi. The two drivers, lined up by the manufacturer-supported Mercedes-AMG Romeo Ferraris, scored one win and one second place each aboard their 500-horsepower Mercedes C63 AMG machinery. As they hold the top two positions in the championship table, they stopped by to share some thoughts over their successful weekend.
"I had a positive feel even before leaving for Monza - said Liuzzi - as I was deeply impressed by the team's professionalism. Mercedes-AMG Romeo Ferraris developed and incredibly quick and competitive car which suits Monza very well. The track is very fascinating and its long straights are a perfect fit with our powerful engines. I'm sure that the situation will be different at Brno because the Audi, which was already competitive at Monza, will be even stronger there. On the other hand, the team can rely on two very experienced drivers like me and Thomas. Although our style's very different, we form a very competitive combination".
"It felt like in a movie, when the scene changes rapidly and everyone gets surprised - told Biagi - from the moment I decided to move to Mercedes I started to work incredibly hard on every single detail... I'm known for being a perfectionist. But I admit I still haven't put this fantastic win into perspective. It's the first time it happens to me, it's like being thrown into another dimension. I just went from Race 1 to Race 2 in and instant, and it's been great to be back at the top of the podium, my last win had been in 2011 at Portimão. I want to thank Mercedes Italia for their very warm welcome as well as the fans on-track, there were a lot of them! Now we have to stay focused on beating our opponents, from now on, the championship will race on tracks that will demand an huge effort to stay on top."
The next round for the SUPERSTARS INTERNATIONAL SERIES is scheduled for May, the 19th at the fascinating venue of Brno, Czech Republic.
