Stories of the first WTCR year: Lynk & Co picks Cyan Racing for new adventure

One week before the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO entourage headed to Japan for the penultimate event of the inaugural season, Lynk & Co was in the country to announce its partnership with Cyan Racing for WTCR 2019.

The new global urban mobility brand from China, part of Geely Group, made the hugely exciting announcement at the Fuji Speedway on 19 October, which meant eight automotive brands from Europe and Asia would be represented in WTCR OSCARO next season.

It was confirmed the Geely Group Motorsport-developed Lynk & Co 03 TCR would form the basis of the project and would be run by Cyan Racing with Thed Björk, the 2017 FIA World Touring Car champion, announced as the first of four drivers.

Since the Fuji announcement, Yvan Muller, Andy Priaulx and Yann Ehrlacher have been added to the driver line-up with two teams of two cars in the planning for 2019. Testing is already underway with kilometres covered in Portugal, Sweden and Spain.

“The fusion between Lynk & Co and Cyan Racing will form the spearhead of our automotive performance debut,” Mr Victor Yang, Vice President of Communications at Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, said at the time. “The combination of Lynk & Co’s challenge of auto industry conventions and Cyan Racing’s vast motorsport and performance experience are two key elements in this unique cooperation.”
