Solberg takes Q3 victory

As the heavy rain of yesterday has turned to sun for day two of the FIA World Rallycross Championship season opener in Portugal, Norway's Petter Solberg won his race to set the fastest time in Q3 and has climbed to fourth overall.

Sweden's Robin Larsson finished second to Solberg and set the second fastest time - the independent Audi A1 driver moving into sixth overall, ahead of Peugeot-Hansen's Sebastien Loeb, who was sixth quickest in Q3 and looks set to make the semi-finals on his World RX debut if he has a good race in Q4.

Andreas Bakkerud passed both Loeb and Toomas Heikkinen in the joker lap in the final race of Q3, quickly catching leaders Johan Kristoffersson and overnight TQ driver Mattias Ekstrom at the front of the race. The Swedish pair took their jokers on lap four, Bakkerud jumping ahead of Ekstrom to win the race, setting third fastest time and moving to third in the overall classifications.

EKS driver Ekstrom remains at the top of the standings after Qualifying 3, with 2015 Montalegre RX winner Kristoffersson in second. Timmy Hansen, Davy Jeanney and Liam Doran currently complete the top 12, with Anton Marklund, Reinis Nitiss and Janis Baumanis just outside the semi-final qualifying positions with Q4 taking place in a few minutes time.
