Simpson: “a pleasure and a privilege” to drive on ERC
Despite crashing out yesterday morning, ŠKODA driver Neil Simpson says that it's been a "pleasure and a privilege" to drive on the Circuit of Ireland as part of the FIA European Rally Championship.
The Englishman, a former Volkswagen factory driver on the British Rally Championship, was making his 2016 ERC debut as a one-off this weekend in his new ŠKODA Fabia R5 - although he hasn't ruled out a return on ŠKODA's home event: Barum Czech Rally Zlín in August.
"I'm so disappointed to have retired, but it's been a pleasure and privilege to drive this car on this event," said the UK-based ŠKODA dealer.
"It was just a silly accident: the car got out of shape over some bumps and off we went. I've never been backwards at more than 100 miles an hour before, and that's not something I'm massively keen to repeat! But it's just one of those things. You live and learn."
