Raikkonen's Spanish GP gesture to crying fan nominated for award

Kimi Raikkonen's meeting with a young, crying Formula 1 fan at this year's Spanish Grand Prix has been nominated for a Laureus award.

One of the most memorable moments of the 2017 season came in Spain when TV cameras picked up a young Ferrari fan named Thomas in floods of tears after Raikkonen was eliminated at the first corner in a crash.

Ferrari managed to track down Thomas and invite him with his family into the F1 paddock to meet Raikkonen, who posed for pictures with his fan before giving him his cap.

The gesture has not gone unnoticed by Laureus, which listed it among the six August nominees for its ‘Best Sporting Moment of the Year' award.
