Røkland plots ERC Junior bid
Steve Røkland is working to finalise the budget to make his return to the FIA European Rally Championship in 2019.
The Norwegian has seven ERC Junior starts to his name and has claimed three class podiums, including two in the Azores, which opens the upcoming ERC season from 21-23 March.
“I’m working on the budget to do the full ERC3 Junior Championship,” said Røkland. “Time is running out for the Azores but hopefully we can get a few more sponsors this week. It’s one of the most fantastic rallies in Europe and I’ve done it two times before so I’ve got the experience.”
Røkland would go up against compatriot Sindre Furuseth, who is also contesting the Pirelli-supported ERC3 Junior category for young drivers in one of the French machines.
“The competition is really good in ERC Junior,” said Røkland. “If the Azores was not possible I would look to start on Rally Liepāja. But I’m doing my best to get the budget for all six rallies.”
Røkland may drive a different car to his regular PEUGEOT 208 R2 in the Azores and would also welcome to hear from teams who could assist with car transportation to Portugal, where Azores Rallye organisers are providing free return sea transfer to the mid-Atlantic island of São Miguel, where the event is based.
“This would help us a lot to be on the startline in the Azores,” Røkland explained.
