Quartet tests WTCR Alfa Romeo
Team Mulsanne has tested Kevin Ceccon, Tom Coronel, Ma Qing Hua and WTCR OSCARO newcomer Jono Lester as it continues to assesses its driver options ahead of the 2019 WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO.
Running the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR by Romeo Ferraris programme, Team Mulsanne scored a breakthrough maiden victory at WTCR JVCKENWOOD Race of Japan in October courtesy of Ceccon’s outstanding efforts.
At Vallelunga near Rome last weekend, Italian Ceccon was joined by New Zealander Lester, Dutchman Coronel and China’s Ma.
Team Mulsanne has yet to reveal its driving strength for 2019, nor how it plans to operate its two two-car squads.
They said what? Drivers on WTCR Alfa Romeo test
Kevin Ceccon: “It was nice to be back in action with the guys. I missed the action for the last month after Macau, so it was good to be back at the wheel. Romeo Ferraris’ staff called me to have some feedback on the car as some new things has been tested. Nothing for next year as been set yet, but I’m sure we’ll have some news on it.”
Tom Coronel: “I’ve been impressed by the engine. I knew that was one of the strongest points of the car, but driven from the inside is impressive how strong it is. I pushed the car to the limit to understand how it reacts, and the feedback was very positive. Vallelunga is also a good track to test at so was a positive day for me.”
Jono Lester: “This is such an amazing car! I drove in Vallelunga a few years ago, so I knew the track and I could get 100 per cent focused to understand the car. I enjoyed it a lot, also the Team Mulsanne and all the Romeo Ferraris staff supported me to get confident with the car as fast as I could. It was positive and I want to work to have the chance to race in WTCR next year.”
Ma Qing Hua: “They have been two intense testing days for me. I had the chance to make few laps on the old-specification Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR by Romeo Ferraris in China, but the car of this year is much better for sure. I had the chance to race against it during this year, and it has been interesting to see how competitive it could be. I want to thank Team Mulsanne for this chance, also to be back at the wheel during the winter break.”
