Pieniążek four stages away from his first ERC Junior win

Łukasz Pieniążek is on course for his maiden ERC Junior victory with four stages remaining on the Circuit of Ireland, the first round of the 2016 season for the category.

Pieniążek inherited the class lead when Marijan Griebel dropped well over a minute on SS8 due to a puncture, and on the two following stages the Polish driver stretched his advantage from nine to 17.3 seconds despite admitting to some mistakes under pressure.

Nikolay Gryazin was Pieniążek's closest rival but the 18-year-old has now dropped 0.4s behind Chris Ingram, who has been much happier with his speed on leg two in his Opel Adam R2 and won the first two stages of the day.

With his punctured tyre replaced, Griebel went on to beat Pieniążek to win the next two stages and is currently 52.4s going into the final loop.
