Pieniążek beats the factory Opels to lead ERC Junior
It wasn't a surprise to see a gaggle of Opels at the top of the ERC Junior times after the first stage of the 2016 campaign on the FIA European Rally Championship's Circuit of Ireland, but it wasn't one of the trio of factory-backed drivers ahead.
Quickest instead was Łukasz Pieniążek, whose decision to take part in the season-opening Rally Islas Canarias to get used to his new Adam R2 seems to have paid off.
The three official Opel drivers were close behind the Pole, with Chris Ingram just 1.7 seconds back. Marijan Griebel was a further 0.6s behind with another 1.2s to Julius Tannert.
Nikolay Gryazin was best of the rest in fifth, with Qualifying Stage pacesetter Steve Røkland back in sixth.
