Opel trio look forward to fierce ERC Junior encounter
Opel Motorsport driver Marijan Griebel is looking to go one better than he managed on last year's European Junior Rally Championship encounter in Ireland and win the class - but he knows that one of the strongest challenges will come from within his own team.
Griebel has two strong team-mates this year in the form of Julius Tannert, who won the ADAC Opel Rally Cup in Germany, and ex-Peugeot driver Chris Ingram.
"That's where I'm expecting the toughest competition to come from," admitted Griebel, who however has a new secret weapon with the arrival of Pirmin Winklhofer as his co-driver: the same man who has also navigated for former European champion Armin Kremer.
"Last year, I had a great fight with Emil Bergkvist but I finished second," added Griebel. "This time, a podium is my objective again: but one step higher than the podium that I had last year!"
All three Opel drivers have done their homework carefully before coming to the Circuit of Ireland, competing on the Kerry Stages rally last weekend, which uses similar stages. Griebel won the class ahead of Ingram, while Tannert had to retire with a mechanical issue.
