Ocon selects permanent number

Esteban Ocon has chosen the number he will carry for the remainder of what he hopes will be a lengthy F1 race career, beginning at this month's Belgian Grand Prix.

The Frenchman, who is linked to Mercedes but has tested with Renault this season, will replace the hapless Rio Haryanto at Manor for the remaining nine races of 2017, and has picked #31 to adorn his new mount. Although he has taken part in several FP1 sessions with Renault, the #45 he carried was assigned to the car by the FIA, and was not a personal selection.

Manor announced the choice via its Instagram feed, along with a picture of the number on the nose of Ocon's car, although no reason has yet been given for the 2015 GP3 champion's decision. He currently carries #34 on his Mercedes DTM car, but is known to have used #31 in karting.
