New Fabia R5 set for March launch, ERC debut possible from summer onwards
The new – and faster – ŠKODA Fabia R5 could hit the stages of the FIA European Rally Championship from the summer onwards.
Scheduled for launch at the Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland from 7-17 March, the Czech machine – with its more powerful engine – is due to be homologated for competition use in the second quarter of 2019 with customer sales beginning immediately afterwards.
According to ŠKODA Motorsport, the new Fabia R5 will “feature design inspired by the new generation of ŠKODA Fabia, as well as some technical changes and improvements. While the overall specifications, like engine displacement, drivetrain configuration and so on, remain the same, as they are dictated by rules, the new car will offer more power and improved torque curve”.
Part two of the 2019 ERC season begins on Rally di Roma Capitale from 19-21 July with Barum Czech Rally Zlín following from 16-18 August.
