Nagy honoured for WTCR heroics
Norbert Nagy has been honoured with Autósport és Formula Magazin’s Feat of the Year award for his podium finish at WTCR Race of Slovakia last season.
Nagy, 24, drove his Zengő Motorsport Cupra TCR to P2 in Race 2 at the Slovakia Ring, which proved to be the highlight of the 2017 FIA European Touring Car Cup runner-up’s maiden season at international level.
“It was a fantastic experience I could compete against such great drivers [in WTCR], and there is a photo where [I am] standing on the podium with two great world champions,” said Nagy, who was joined on the Slovakia Ring podium by WTCR OSCARO title top two Gabriele Tarquini and Yvan Muller. “I never would exchange it for anything, there’s not any European championship I would give that podium for, not even a European title.”
While French WTCR trio Nathanaël Berthon, Aurélien Comte and Aurélien Panis have been keeping competition-fit during the winter by contesting the Trophée Andros ice racing series, Nagy made his fifth appearance on the Szilveszter Rallye in and around the Hungaroring late last month. He finished P13 in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII.
“Of course this is mostly for having fun at the end of the season, but finally you will push the pedal to metal, because you are a racing driver and you cannot help it,” he said.
