Michelisz braced for “biggest challenge” in WTCR 2019

The prospect of taking on seven FIA world title winners in this season’s WTCR – FIA World Touring Car cup presented by OSCARO has prompted Nobert Michelisz to admit he’s about to face the “biggest challenge” of his career to date.

Michelisz will continue to enjoy Hyundai power in WTCR / OSCARO, which steps up another level in 2019 with an influx of yet more top talents, including his i30 N TCR-driving team-mates Nicky Catsuburg and Augusto Farfus, plus double FIA World RX champion Johan Kristoffersson, who will drive a Sébastien Loeb Racing-prepared Volkswagen Golf GTI R5.

In a post on Facebook, Michelisz wrote: “I think I’m standing in front of the biggest challenge of my career this year. Anyway, I can’t wait for the fight to begin.”

Despite highlighting the enormity of the task ahead, Michelisz starts his 2019 WTCR / OSCARO campaign as one of the favourites for title glory. And the Hungarian talent will begin the new season boosted by a strong finish to 2018 in Macau and a successful pre-Christmas test in Portugal.

“Everybody saw in 2018 how strong the Hyundai i30 N TCR is in WTCR with the results myself and Gabriele [Tarquini] were able to score,” said Michelisz. “In 2019 we should be able to race at the front again. Now we have the knowledge from the test to add to what we learned through last season, so we can continue to improve the performance of the car.”
