Michelisz back on WTCR podium
Norbert Michelisz returned to the podium in the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO with third place in Race 2 at Suzuka on Sunday.
The result banished the memories of a difficult trip to China for the BRC Racing Team driver. However, it could have been second place had he been able to overtake Denis Dupont sooner, as the Hyundai-powered Hungarian explained.
"It was quite tricky to be honest," said Michelisz at WTCR JVCKENWOOD Race of Japan. "After my first attack I managed to get ahead of Denis but the gap to Pepe [Oriola] and Rob [Huff] was too big. Because of that, I really had to use the car and I think I used the front tyres too much.
"I got very close to Pepe but I didn't have anything left. He was driving quite well, just some small mistakes but never big enough ones for me to risk a move."
Michelisz is one of seven drivers still in contention for the inaugural WTCR OSCARO title heading to next month's season showdown in Macau. However, with a 79-point deficit to his team-mate Gabriele Tarquini to make up, the odds aren't stacked in his favour.
