M-Sport throws Røkland an ERC Junior lifeline
ERC Junior contender Steve Røkland will have a new car on the next round of the series - thanks to M-Sport.
Norwegian driver Røkland rolled out of the Circuit of Ireland when all of the bolts snapped on the front-right wheel of his Peugeot. The damage sustained to the car threatened to rule him out of the Azores Airlines Rallye while a new chassis was built up.
A lifeline however has come from M-Sport, the firm behind Ford's World Rally Championship successes and the Fiesta R5 used by drivers in the ERC. It will run one of the one-litre turbocharged Ford Fiesta R2T cars it launched in 2015 for Røkland in the Azores.
"I was both pleased and surprised when they called," said the 23-year-old. "It looked like I didn't have any chance of doing Azores this year. I did this rally for the first time last year and think it's a fantastic event, so I'm looking forward and it will be very exciting to drive the one-litre Fiesta."
