Mads Østberg (5th) said:

"We made a mistake going for the hard tyre this morning. Looking at all of the data from previous years, we thought it would work out, but I knew after the first couple of corners that we didn't have the best option.

"The main thing is that we are still here. There is still a very long way to go and, as everyone knows, anything can happen in Mexico. In the past, my rally here has started well and then gone a bit wrong, so hopefully this year will be the reverse of that and we can still secure a good result this weekend."

Éric Camilli (14th) said:

"It was really disappointing to get a puncture on the first stage this morning [SS4] but that's just the way it is. There were so many stones on the road so I was driving really carefully but we were still unlucky and picked up a slow puncture on the rear left. As we only had one spare, I took it even more carefully though the next stage [SS5].

"The most important thing is that we are still here. Of course it's very disappointing to have lost time so early in the event, but I am here to get the experience. I'm really happy to be here and I want to progress and remain focussed for the afternoon stages."
