Lynn: Test another tick in the book

Alex Lynn has repeated his belief that he would be ready to join the F1 grid should the call come for 2017 following a successful mid-season test with Williams at Silverstone earlier this week.

The Briton, who is racing in the GP2 Series while he waits for his top flight break, took up testing duties just days after Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas went pointless in the British Grand Prix and racked up the laps on day one before handing over to the Finn in what he described as a positive couple of days for the team.

"It was very productive," Lynn reported, "I got a lot of laps down, got a lot of interesting stuff completed for the team. And, of course, it's always nice to drive an F1 car at Silverstone...."

Despite rumours linking F1 veteran Jenson Buttonwith a possible return to the team that gave him his F1 break in 2000, Lynn reckons that he has a shot at being considered for one of the two seats, likely alongside Bottas, for 2017.

"From my side, I've already said I feel ready to make this step up and [the test] was another tick in my experience book," he reasoned, "Another day completed: no incidents, no problems and I did a good job and compared competitively with the racing drivers in the run I did."

Having endured a nightmare GP2 weekend on home soil, however, Lynn knows that he needs to focus on his wavering title challenge in the feeder series - he currently lies ninth overall, 28 points off top spot - if he is to continue making a positive impression on potential F1 suitors.

"I think to be honest, I need to get back to my usual programme with GP2, keep my head down and crack on," he admitted.

Both Williams and Lynn will be back in action in their respective championships at the Hungaroring next weekend.
