Lukyanuk back in the ERC in Greece – with a new co-driver
Alexey Lukyanuk returns to FIA European Rally Championship action on this week's SEAJETS Acropolis Rally after the crash that kept him out of the Circuit of Ireland, but co-driver Alexey Arnautov is not ready for the comeback.
Arnautov (pictured, left) suffered a spinal compression fracture in the pre-event test accident in Northern Ireland, and will have to miss the Greek gravel event while he recovers.
Standing in will be Roman Kapustin, who usually navigates for Vadim Kuznetsov, a good friend of Lukyanuk's. Indeed, the pair have competed together once before, on Rally Kurzeme in Lativa in 2012.
"I know ‘Roma' well, he is a very responsible person, and we have already conducted some homemade training with onboards," said Lukyanuk, who started the 2016 ERC with victory on Rally Islas Canarias El Corté Ingles. "There are some minor details that need to modify, but overall it's good. We understand each other, and I think everything will be fine. "
Ahead of the trip to Greece, Lukyanuk recently took part in the Rally Masters Show in Moscow in a Subaru Impreza - with his wife Julia Burykina calling the pace-notes!
