Junior WRC in Germany: Dream win for Tannert

Germany's Julius Tannert scored his debut FIA Junior WRC victory on his home round of the championship on sunday.

A mistake-free weekend enabled Tannert to finish more than 12 minutes ahead of his nearest rival at ADAC Rallye Deutschland after other drivers hit problems. Victory enabled the youngster to climb to third in the championship in his Ford Fiesta R2T.

"It's fantastic to win my home rally, this was our target from the start of the season," said Tannert. "I think we had a good approach, to try and be fast but also not to make a mistake.

"Friday was difficult and we dropped time but things went our way on Saturday and we handled the conditions well."

Series leader Nil Solans finished second. He retired on the opening day after crashing into a wall but staged a superb recovery and holds a 23-point lead at the top of the table with one round remaining. The Spaniard's efforts also saw him crowned WRC 3 champion.

Nicolas Ciamin was third after a tough weekend. He led after the opening day but fell back after crashing into trees. Another mistake in today's first speed put Ciamin off the road again, but he cruised home to take the final podium place.

Terry Folb also led in Friday's opening leg but the Frenchman retired after an accident. He returned today and won all four tests.
