Jari-Matti's Swedish quartet

Jari-Matti's Swedish quartet

Jari-Matti Latvala's victory at Rally Sweden in a Yaris WRC was the fourth time he had won the event at the wheel of a different car.

On Latvala's winning list are Ford's Focus RS, its successor the Fiesta RS and Volkswagen's Polo R before he moved to Toyota's new challenger this year. Another winning fact? With four of Latvala's 17 wins at championship level on Swedish snow, the rally has surpassed Finland (three wins) as his most successful round.

Here's a look back at his previous Swedish successes:

2008: Latvala breaks his idol's record
Unseasonably warm weather meant the 2008 Rally Sweden was more gravel than snow, but the conditions suited Latvala and his Ford Focus RS down to the ground; the Finn claimed his first WRC victory and set a record that still stands today. At the age of 22 years and 313 days, he became the youngest winner in the history of the World Rally Championship, breaking his idol Henri Toivonen's long-standing record set at the 1980 RAC Rally.

2012: Latvala survives last-minute hiccup
Now at the wheel of a Ford Fiesta RS, Latvala wrapped up his second Swedish victory and continued a five-year run of Finnish drivers winning the rally in a Ford. Latvala took the lead on the eighth stage and had built a lead of 35 seconds until a puncture two stages before the finish left his rival Mikko Hirvonen just 8.4 seconds adrift. But he kept his cool and reached the finish having stretched the margin up to 16.6sec.

2014: Treble top in Sweden
Latvala's success in 2014 was a landmark moment. It was the first time he had won a single WRC event on three different occasions and gave him a feeling that he described as: "very, very special". But he was made to work hard for his success. Andreas Mikkelsen proved a difficult opponent to overcome in the race for the rally win. However, when the Norwegian nosed his Polo WRC into a snow bank on the final day as he desperately tried to claw back a 3.6sec deficit to his team-mate, Latvala knew he was home and dry.
