Haas Barcelona updates to offer 'little boost' in tight midfield fight

Günther Steiner beieves that Haas' first major upgrade package for the 2017 Formula 1 season will offer a "little boost" that could be decisive in the tight midfield battle.

Haas currently sits seventh in the constructors' championship after picking up points in China and Bahrain, with fine margins appearing to separate all of the teams from fourth to eighth in the pecking order.

The battle between Force India, Williams, Toro Rosso, Haas and Renault is set to be spiced up when the first significant updates arrive, with gains set to be exaggerated given the infancy of the new regulations.

Steiner is sure that Haas can take a step forward in Barcelona with its upgrades, and felt that some of the team's rivals may have bolted early with updates in Russia last weekend.

"I think a lot of the other midfield teams have brought their upgrades between Bahrain and here, and we bring ours in Barcelona and we hope it works and we can get ahead again or get where we were before," Steiner said.

When asked how significant the Barcelona upgrade was, Steiner said: "Quite a big one. I don't know if it's our bigger one but for sure on the bigger side of it, there is quite a lot of things coming.

"We need to check because we haven't tested it in Bahrain if it works like it does in the wind tunnel. But if it does I think it's a nice upgrade. But then again, sometimes you put it on the car and you need to learn about it, the same as we did with the brakes. So I hope not.

"But again, I think it will give us a little boost."
