GTSPRINT: Kox, Pronk take spectacular debut win at Zolder
It's been a sensational debut for the Lamborghini Gallardo of Peter Kox and Nico Pronk in round 4 of the GTSPRINT INTERNATIONAL SERIES at Zolder as the Dutch duo cruised to victory in an eventful Race 1 at the Belgian venue.
In addition to topping the GTSPRINT podium, the Kox Racing men also ended up third overall in the Zolder GT International Race (featuring cars from both GTSPRINT and the Supercar Challenge), won by the Corvette C5 R of Roger Grouwels.
Second place in GTSPRINT went to the MTM Audi R8 LMS shared by German Thomas Schöffler and home hero Laurens Vanthoor. Despite spending much part of the day in the lead, they were penalized with a drive-through due to not respecting their mandatory time handicap for the pit-stop. Roberto Del Castello and Piero Necchi, on the RC Motorsport Corvette Z06 R, ended up in third and continued in their positive season by staying on the podium. Another good showing was for Mario Cordoni and Massimo Mantovani, who drove a solid race on the Team Easy Race Ferrari 458 Italia GTS3 and slightly missed the podium. Championship leader Glauco Solieri was also penalized with a drive-through for leaving the pitlane too early but salvaged a top-5 finish.
The GTS Cup Trophy class was led by Steven Goldstein and Antonio De La Reina on the Heaven Motorsport Porsche 997.
Race 2 of the GTSPRINT INTERNATIONAL SERIES will take place tomorrow at 13:45 and will benefit from the SUPERSTARSWORLD TV coverage plan.
