Gilbert reveals Skoda plans

Former junior WRC champion Quentin Gilbert has revealed a switch to Skoda's Fabia R5 for his second season in WRC 2.

The Frenchman's title win in 2015 earned him a WRC 2 campaign last year in a Citroën DS 3, but results were disappointing and at this year's season-opening Rallye Monte-Carlo he was at the wheel of a Ford Fiesta R5.

But in outlining his WRC programme for the season, Gilbert also confirmed the change to a DMACK-shod Fabia run by the Tagai Rally Technology team.

Gilbert and his co-driver Renaud Jamoul will drive the Skoda on six WRC 2 rounds, starting with May's Vodafone Rally de Portugal and followed by the rounds in Poland, Finland, Germany, Spain and Great Britain.

"After an average season last year I really wanted to return to WRC 2 with raised ambitions," said Gilbert.
"The Skoda Fabia R5 has proved its competitiveness and I hope to achieve some great results at the wheel of this car. I'll have the opportunity to get to grips with it in the Terre des Causses Rally at the beginning of April. I can't wait to be there to start putting everything into place to be the quickest this year.

"It's been a long winter - even though I was able to race in the Monte Carlo Rally. I've continued to keep myself in tip-top physical shape to be ready when I get back behind the wheel. This year it's obvious that our aim will be to fight at the front in WRC 2," he added.
