Five years and counting: Bennani continues Loeb alliance in WTCR

Mehdi Bennani will extend his long-term partnership with Sébastien Loeb Racing into a fifth season after signing for the French squad’s attack on the 2019 WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO.

Bennani joined SLR for the 2015 FIA World Touring Car Championship and enjoyed three successful seasons with the team in the WTCC, which included five outright wins and the WTCC Trophy title in 2016.

He remained with SLR for the inaugural WTCR OSCARO season to drive a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, bouncing back from a huge accident in Portugal to land his maiden win at WTCR Race of China-Wuhan.

“I can look back on a good WTCR season with Sébastien Loeb Racing,” said the 35-year-old Moroccan. “The highlights were without a doubt my podium finish at home in Morocco and, of course, my win in Wuhan. It’s obviously fantastic for me to be competing with SLR yet again next year.”

Rob Huff will continue to partner Bennani at SLR with double FIA World Rallycross champion Johan Kristoffersson joining the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR-powered squad for his maiden WTCR OSCARO campaign.
