First entries in for ERC’s Ypres Rally
The entry list for round five of the 2016 FIA European Rally Championship, the Kenotek Ypres Rally, is building ahead of the Belgian asphalt classic on 23-25 June.
ERC regulars Antonín Tlusťák and Dávid Botka are among the early entries, as is Martin McCormack in his Super 2000-specification ŠKODA (pictured). McCormack finished eighth on the event last year, and ran as high as fourth on his home rally the Circuit of Ireland last month.
A number of local drivers have entered early in R5 machinery, and two that have already registered for the ERC are Vincent Verschueren, who finished third in his Fabia in 2015, and Fiesta driver Claudie Tanghe.
In ERC2, Giacomo Scattolon and Tibor Erdi Jr have made entries, the latter having won the category in Ypres last year.
The Kenotek Ypres Rally will be the third round of the ERC Junior season, and the standings leader Łukasz Pieniążek has already made his entry along with factory Opel driver Marijan Griebel and Norway's Steve Røkland. ERC3 contender Szabolcs Várkonyi has also entered in his Peugeot 208.
Entries remain open until 7 June, with 23 May the closing date for entries at a reduced fee. The full entry list is due to be published in seeded order, subject to FIA approval, on 13 June.
