Ferrari, Mercedes ramp up Pirelli tyre tests

Pirelli is continuing its 2017 tyre evaluations as both Mercedes and Ferrari took the track in France and Spain to sample the firm's prototype rubber.

The first outing for Mercedes with the larger, wider tyres that will be introduced as part of a technical overhaul for 2017, Manor Racing driver Pascal Wehrlein will be at the wheel of the modified car for three days at Paul Ricard.

Ferrari, meanwhile, continued its evaluation work at the Circuit de Catalunya with Kimi Raikkonen sampling the 2015 car (albeit using the 2016 power unit), the Finn following on from similar runs already conducted by Sebastian Vettel and Esteban Gutierrez last month.

Mercedes will be the focus of the next few tests, with another wet test scheduled for September 21-22 at Paul Ricard and another two days of dry testing in Spain.
